BUCCC Introduce Mental Health Initiative

Wings Logo

To our Bulls Family,

Within our extended family, there are people connected to us who have had mental health issues and needed support.

This program, dubbed WINGS, came about through our friends at Hawthorn Amateur Football Club and we are proud to be able to bring this support network to our club.

We embarked on this project during the preseason and through the hard work of Alex Barr and the generosity of Bendigo Bank we have been able to set up a program which is designed to offer support to those who need it.

Below is the key information about the program which essentially outlines that all members now have access to three (3) one-hour sessions at our new mental health partner Nexus Psychology. These are completely anonymous and are invoiced to, and paid for in whole by the Bulls.

We hope that this helps removes some of the financial burdens of seeking help, and encourages those who are struggling in silence to reach out and start a conversation.

Nexus has been terrific in partnering with the Bulls and are always looking for other ways to be involved in our community – so keep an eye out for further updates on events and talks to help bring mental health awareness to the forefront of our minds.

If you are struggling with mental health, or feel like to just want someone to listen without judgement – contact Nexus Psychology on 9500 0751 or visit their website:

https://www.nexuspsychology.com.au/

If you’d like to know more or have any questions about the program please feel free to comment below or speak with our player welfare manager, Alex Barr (0425 727 146)

Social Events for 2018-19

This year has seen an up and down year socially with some very successful nights and the unfortunate cancelling of the traditional xmas party…we will continue to put on the social functions in the coming years and continue to tweak and make changes as we move forward.

The Trivia night was re-installed and was a great night run by Andrew “Banger” Bailey as Trivia Master with plenty of fun, throughout the night with paper plane making competitions, closest to the Jim Beam Bottle coin toss and several challenging rounds of trivia.

The Reverse Raffle produced a great outcome for the club as the major fund raiser and what a great night we had. The fire pit and pool table went out onto the balcony and Cloud9 belted out some great 80’s and 90’s tunes whilst the countdown began. Congratulations to Akila for his win !!

Thursday nights saw the cooking of meals by players continue and every Saturday we had food at the bar for the after game… This year we introduced the Table Tennis championships….it was the longest championship ever run but after the preliminary rounds, we saw the favorite, Ed “Squidward” James choke in the grand final after being completely picked apart by the 1st XI captain, Andrew Lammardo.

Congratulations to all the meat raffle winners.

Next season we plan to ramp up the Saturday post game festivities with food, continue the meat trays, scores read and more…

We will continue to work through more ideas for social events and player engagement and welcome ideas from you all for 2019/2020.

Appointment of BUCCC Coach

DQ

We’re delighted to welcome back David Quinlan as Senior Coach for the 2018/19 season.

In his last two years at the helm, David has continued to foster the club’s young talent and has helped each and every player get the best out of himself. Last year, David steered the 1st XI to a memorable premiership and he looks to help the club replicate that success this year.

Welcome back DQ!

2017-18 U18 Premiers

Premiers!

Adam Colgan captains the BUCCC under 18C team to a Premiership in the K Noy Shield.

Playing at home, we batted on Day 1 for a hard fought 107 with Alex Stork 34, Travis Harrison 29 & Trent Ryan 15 the main run scorers.

Day 2 started with a slow but steady stream of runs for Burwood to be 4/81 in the 29th over. Chasing 27 runs in 10 overs it seemed BUCCC would be denied victory. Conceding 5 more runs in the 30th.

Jack Beardsley takes 2 wickets in the next and with Adam Colgan are supported by a stunning fielding performance from the team to pile on the pressure for the last 5 overs & 1 ball to take a total of 6 wickets for the loss of only 3 runs to seal a great win that was energetically
celebrated by all.

A great game. Congratulations !!!!

Alex Stork 34
Travis Harrington 29
Trent Ryan 15
Adam Colgan 9.1 O, 3 M, 3 W, 19 R.
Jack Beardsley 9 O, 2 M, 4 W, 20 R.
Jack Rider 5 O, 1 M, 2 W, 12R.

Final score:
BUCCC 9/107 39 Overs
Burwood 10/89 35.1 Overs

Well done to all that played in the team.

Mackenzie Harvey, Will Sutherland and Zak Evans

Mackenzie Harvey, Will Sutherland and Zak Evans

Congratulations to former BUCCC junior Zak Evans on signing a 3 year deal with the Melbourne Renegades.

Zak joined BUCCC for the 2013-14 Season in the U14’s. He was quickly identified as a talent and started playing in the Seniors 7th XI. With immediate success he was soon moving up the grades and found a regular position playing in the Senior 3rd XI A Grade Shaw Shield. Playing well enough to earn a spot in the Grand Final team batting at 8th and bowling 9 overs winning a Grand Final.

In 2014-15 Zak moved up to the U16 juniors and representing BUCCC in the 2nd XI in the Burt Shield Zac continued to improve. Also competing in the T20 Cup.

Zak played in the U16 team for BUCC in 2015-16 also played in the Australian U17 National Championships winning the Grand Final taking 4/38 against Victoria Metro. Represented Australia in in U16 International against Pakistan taking 15 wickets.

Congratulations Zak on making it to the BBL Melbourne Renegades.
